Cord Cutters Anonymous
What is a Cord Cutter, basically cord cutting is where you decide to no longer subscribe to traditional "cable" tv services and instead download or stream all of your media. Cord Cutting used to mean that you would gain access to downloads or streams without paying for them, however, over the past several years cord cutting has come to mean that you are subscribing to other streaming services and likely paying more. Â
I am will be going over the first option, or the ability to not pay for streaming services or how to download and stream content locally... That is the fun part, the part I truly enjoy. It is a fun hobby and and tied with my love of movies, fits right into to my wants and needs.
To understand my hobby, here is a quick breakdown of what I have done over the past 10 years when it comes to data hoarding. I have three Storage Area Networks (SANs) in my home, one is 70Tb, one is 40Tb, and the other is 20Tb is mainly used as my backup server with some old school ISO's saved on it.
Fully utilized I have over 3,000 moves ranging from 1922 to present and over 200 TV shows from the 80's to now. I am sure you are asking the question, have you watched all of those moves. The short is a solid Schmaybe, the long answer is I have watched most. I either own as a DVD/BlueRay or paid to download, and the media on my SAN's are my backups. In one of my partner pages, I have started a movie review that you can read if you like.
So lets get into how to find, download and watch media from your home...
You will need the following tools:
1. The internet
2. An application to stream your media
3. Access to source to download media
4. the correct software to automate the downloading, categorizing and renaming of media files
5. A nice TV and comfy couch to watch everything from.Â
